Cute miniature from Tarrasch at Nurnberger Chess Congress of 1883

Here is a cute little mating attack by Tarrasch against Jacques Schwarz at the Nurnberger Chess Congress of 1883. Schwarz thought the safe thing to do was castle, but castling walked right into a nasty attack.

  1. Tarrasch was a great player and could definitely attack when he wanted to. It is a pity that he has been overshadowed my some of his contemporaries because his annotations are very instructive.

  2. Yeah, I have been enjoying working through my copy of 300 Games. It is a shame it only covers up to 1894.

  3. Do you have the tournament book for Hasting 1895? It is pretty good. Tarrasch did well there and Pilsbury just knocked everyone out (except Lasker).

  4. Just saw your last question Tommy. No I currently don't have the tournament book for Hastings 1895. I need to get it at some point.
